Vectorizing a Cartoon Character

Untitled-2 [Recovered].png

For this project, I created an illustration of Peppa Pig, a character I grew up watching, using organic, oval-like shapes to capture her friendly and playful appearance. My process involved several layers in Adobe Illustrator, starting with her head, followed by her ears, facial features, and color, then her dress, arms, legs, and finally, her shoes. While the tracing could be cleaner and more precise, I’m proud of how the layers came together to form a cohesive image. In the future, I’ll focus on refining my technique, but I hope the audience notices the simplicity of the shapes and the character’s cheerful spirit.

For this project, I created a character inspired by two things I enjoy receiving as gifts: a Smiski collectible toy and a flower. While I didn’t mash-up specific characters, I combined the playful, rounded body of the Smiski with the soft, organic shape of a flower. Using Adobe Illustrator, I traced images of both a Smiski and a flower, creating separate layers for each element and using the fill tool to add color. The design features a lot of circles and curved lines, which helped capture the soft, whimsical essence of both objects. I refined the lines with the Pen and Curvature tools to achieve smooth, clean shapes. I want the audience to notice that while the character is cute, the flower’s expression hints at a quiet sadness, symbolizing longing or a desire for something more.
